Match Report:

Tavistock Thistles 3 - Horrabridge Rangers 4

Full Match Report to follow summary below:

U16s record another win over Tavistock Thistles in a 7 goal thriller at Crowndale.

Horrabridge Won this game 4 - 3 but were under pressure for a lot of the second half. A man of the match display from Kieran Alford and excellent ball skills from Martin Hoar combined with some clinical finishing from Josh Broughton as well as telling saves from Chris Argles put Horrabridge 3 up at half time. Sam Gridell had another excellent game at left back driving down the left wing and setting up the first goal. Lewis Eglinton battled hard in the midfield and was unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet. In the second half, Thistles took the fight to Horrabridge scoring an early goal and then pulled another back with a 'third time lucky' strike from Will Hall.

Horrabridge quickly responded to keep the 2 goal cushion with a superb run from Martin Hoar past 3 players and finished off by Josh Broughton. With only seconds left on the clock Will Hall again broke the offside trap and scored to bring the score to 4 - 3 but it was too little too late and Horrabridge were pleased to do the double over Tavistock

Match Report:

Horrabridge Rangers 4 - Tavistock Thistles 1

Horrabridge and Tavistock kicked off the season with a this key local derby. Tavistock were bedding in a few new players while Horrabridge remained mostly unchanged from last year. Horrabridge started the brighter with a few probing attacks before the midfield started to make their superior numbers count. In one such attack, a cross from the left hand side was met by Man of the Match Soloman Cox who almost nodded home the first goal but the crossbar got in the way. In the next attack the ball was only half cleared by the Tavistock defence and Adam Cowen-King was in the perfect position to slot home the first goal of the season. Soon after another run from the centre left saw a stinging strike from Bradley Johns which the keeper could only parry. Robert Pearce had positioned himself near the penalty spot, recieved the rebound and slotted home the second goal. Tavistock made a few breaks from midfield with Will Hall getting on the end of the through balls but he struggled to find the target; much to the relief of Horrabridge. At about 40 minutes into the game, Soloman Cox made another powerful run on goal and was in a 1 on 1 with the Tavistock keeper who was brave and dived at his feet taking a bang on the knee for his trouble; the defense tried to clear but only as far as Adam who drove the ball into the roof of the net. His celebrations were short lived however when the goal was rulled out because of the incapacity of the Keeper who ended up being stretchered off to be replaced by the Tavistock number 2. After a drop ball resumed play Horrabridge had a couple of runs down the wing with Josh Broughton but he was unable to increase the team's lead in the first half.

At the start of the second half Horrabridge were playing up the slight hill but still kept the game under control with some great work by Jordan Eales and Kieran Alford on the wings. One such run saw the ball played thorough on the right with a cross played to the 6 yard box where Bradley Johns nodded home Horrabridge's third goal. Striker Lewis Eglinton made a number of strong runs and combined well with his teammates. Kieran Alford on another controlled run after picking up a loose ball in the midfield cut inside and looked up to pass, saw a gap infront of him and rifled home Horrabridges 4th. Tavistock were never totally out of the game and made a number of good attacks of their own but Chris Argles was solid making a couple of key saves. Tavistock were not to be outdone and got a deserved goal after an excellent combination with Bradley Barbour and Will Hall put Will through into a 1 v 1 with Chris who could not stop the powerful shot into the goal. Tavistock almost got a second when Chris saved on the edge of the box but got winded in the process and again for safety, the referee blew the whistle and the goal was disallowed. At the end 4 - 1 was a fair result and Horrabridge were pleased to start the season in such a positive way. Their Manager was quick to praise the whole team in particular the wingers and defence of Josh Bainbridge, Jack Harrison and Jon Brimble who really worked well in keeping a dangerous Tavistock attack muted for much of the game.
